Pets@Work

May 30, 2017

dog-734689_1280Why do I love working from home? Of course, for the obvious reasons – it’s quiet, comfortable, and convenient – but also because my dog snuggles up next to me and keeps me company. He’s an excellent officemate!

I came across an interesting article yesterday on Fitbit’s blog about bringing pets to work. The post features a recent study by Banfield Pet Hospital exploring the prevalence and perceptions of pets in the workplace and how allowing our furry friends to accompany us at the office relates to employee and company culture. The results of this survey found that “pet-friendly workplaces are viewed as highly positive, boosting morale, contributing to talent retention and providing employers with a competitive edge in the recruitment process.”

As a dog lover, I’m a huge fan of this idea. I find it fascinating that animals can have such a positive impact on attitude and possibly even increase performance by generating higher levels of happiness and trust.

CV-office 2I feel that the key to employee engagement and retention is shaping work into a place people want to be. We don’t necessarily have doggy day care quite yet, but the new Kronos home at Cross Point in Lowell offers a daycare program to help with the challenges of balancing work and family. A strong, developed workplace culture supports you with the comforts and conveniences that enable a productive life, both personally and professionally. Actually, it’s similar to how a complete human capital management solution embraces your entire workforce with end-to-end employee lifecycle management…a bone to chew on.
