Just gimme a second…
I’ve often written about time here, and yesterday this article on the “leap second” being added to our reality on June 30th gave me another novel time segue to blog about our Timekeeping solutions for organizations large or small… Or so I thought, but it had already happened. In the past and in a parallel universe… Well, a parallel Kronos blog called “Time to Care.” Yeah, Susan Reese is our Chief Nurse Executive and in that parallel universe exactly two years ago today, she wrote Late again! It may not be your fault…this time!
Anyway, Susan already covered Mother Earth, Atomic Clocks, and the Radiocommunications Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, so I don’t have to. I’ll just take a second to say it’s a pretty big deal. Here’s a quote:
“The last time we had a leap second, a whole bunch of websites went down,” said John P. Lowe of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which distributes standard time and frequency signals in the U.S. “It was like a mini Y2K.”
Hmmm… Since I have nothing new to offer because of the parallel universe thing, I promise you this. I’ll find out what this means for Kronos systems, and how we handle it… because… uh, it’s happened before. In the past.
Hey, I do like that the second is being added in June. If you’ve ever said, “I wish the summer were longer,” this year if you’re in the Northern hemisphere you’ll get your wish… by one second. Enjoy it.
