Share this Red Flag Warning for Kronos Workforce Central

December 13, 2013

Have you ever been in a meeting with a doofus that speaks like this:

“Let me know if there are any red flags. If so, I’ll put the issue in the parking lot. If not, it sounds like a win-win. We’ll have that action item be one of our next steps, follow up, circle back, and close the loop.”

red-flag-warningRed flags have been used as warnings for hundreds of years, and one site I visited claims “the earliest citation for “red flag” in the Oxford English Dictionary is from 1602 and shows that at that time the flag was used by military forces to indicate that they were preparing for battle.” This is a real red flag. This is not a test. This is an actual emergency. You need to be preparing. In case you didn’t receive it, here’s the communication sent to all Workforce Central customers. Please share this information with peers who support Workforce Central. This thing (and potentially your system) goes down in a month:

We are contacting you to alert you to an Oracle JRE 1.7 issue we believe will affect many Java applications, including Workforce Central. This issue may affect your Kronos® environment and require your attention prior to January 14, 2014.

We were very recently notified by Oracle that they will release JRE 1.7.0_51 on January 14. The release changes the way signed applets are processed by a number of Java applications, including Workforce Central. Despite the limited time frame available to respond, we are determined to minimize the impact of this change on our customers, and are moving swiftly to provide you with the tools you need to avoid disruption to your Kronos environment.

This Oracle JRE release impacts Workforce Central implementations versions 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and 7.0, which run the JRE 1.7 family. If you are running applications in the JRE 1.6 family, you are not impacted by this change.

If you are running JRE 1.7 with Workforce Central 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 7.0, remediation is required prior to January 14, 2014. In order to prevent any disruption to your Kronos environment, you will need to upgrade to a Service Pack or apply a patch. See the details below for the necessary action for your environment:

Service Packs will be posted to the Kronos Customer Portal. To request a patch, please use eCase management to create a case on the Customer Portal.
