Here, There, and Everywhere

October 9, 2012

I’m on a plane thinking about different planes of existence. Conventional thinking is that you can’t be two places at once, but I believe it is possible. Anything is. Unfortunately with today’s technology, being in two places at once might deliver only half a brain, and that wouldn’t be good for me. So sadly, I won’t be attending HRTech because I have to attend our annual Sales meeting that kicks off our new fiscal year. I’m also sure Billy Beane would have loved to attend our Sales meeting as he was scheduled to, but he can’t because his Oakland A’s are playing October baseball. Huh? In the movie, “Moneyball,” the Brad Pitt Billy Beane hated watching the games, so what’s up with that, real Billy Beane? I kid real Billy Beane. His team was 15 games out of playoff contention when he made his post-season commitment, yet they stormed back to win their division. Mr. Beane will be exactly where he should be, enjoying the payoff of his baseball workforce analytics.

As for me, I’m still going to get what I would want to get if I could be in two places at once. Let me explain… At HRTech, I’d want to get all I could get about cloud and big data. At our Sales Kickoff, I’m going to get all I could want about cloud and big data.

And the place I’d really rather be will be there when I get home.
