You Can Come Home

April 4, 2012

Recently I had a long discussion with the Director of our Education Delivery team. Tom Kimmel and I go back to the last century and worked together at NEC in the Fingerprint Identification division. We’ve been friends over 20 years. During our chat, Tom mentioned that his technology team was working on a new generation of KnowledgePass, our online education portal. I’d heard Tom’s Technology Manager was leaving to take a position in our IT department, so I asked how that would affect the KnowledgePass development. Tom answered with a smile, “Well, losing Scott would be a huge blow to the project, but Tom Wall is coming back.”

Tom Wall. One of the nicest guys I’ve encountered during my near 12 years at Kronos, and that’s saying a lot in an environment full of good people. Tom left in 2006 because of a hellish commute, but now he’s back and the folks on our Education team are thrilled! Tom’s LinkedIn profile shows a techie at heart:

Microsoft .Net, C#, ASP.NET, ASP, Visual Basic 6, VBA, Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2005/2000, Sqlite, Oracle, Python, HTML, XHTML, XML, Javascript, JQuery, Django, Turbogears, Apache Web Server, IIS, BASH, Windows 2008, Windows 7, Windows 2003, Ubuntu Linux, Debian Linux, Suse Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, Design Patterns, AS400, Query400, Common LISP

That’s a mouthful of jargon, but Tom’s technical value to an organization is magnified by his people skills and heart. Here’s what some of his employees and peers say about Tom:

“Tom is a very conscientious and thorough person. It was a pleasure to work for Tom, as he was always fair and above board in all his business dealings.”

“His interaction and communication style enabled him to transition employees into high performers in a changing environment.”

“He has an incredible passion for quality and customer service.”

“Besides being an extremely talented and hardworking Developer, Tom is also one of the kindest and patient individuals I have worked with.”

“A man with vision, a love of technology, and the ability to bring people together and get things done. Doesn’t get better than that.”

No, it doesn’t. Welcome home, Tom.
